Personal Coaching
In my experience, I have discovered concerns or patterns easily identifiable in nearly every person I speak with who is honest about the state of their lives. Exhaustion, vicarious traumatization, the sense of being “the only one who cares,” or moderate to severe burn-out which can occur when living in the trenches of serving and helping others. These are a few of many common issues which manifest in leadership.
I have realized over the years that this focus on others, while very important, must not become primary as we neglect our personal, inner growth as human beings. It must not commandeer our understanding and experience of being fully known and fully loved ourselves.
Though becoming a trendy topic, ‘Self-care” in actual practice is something that seems to take a back seat as we work to help others. At best, the idea becomes just a concept rather than action and lifestyle. At worst, it becomes something we regard with disdain. We subconsciously begin to believe that the demands of our work do not justify our need to make changes and to seek help.
My primary style of coaching is listening, regarding one’s story with honor, and working to understand the client, their context, and their concerns. I assist the client in understanding themselves within their own context, and forming an alliance of trust and care as we journey forward.
From personal struggles, to things not quite “clicking.” From having the desire to dream, to clients simply needing to speak with someone outside of their context, I work to flow with the needs of whomever I serve.
